Orbit Fab Selected by NASA to Develop Fluid Transfer Technology for Lunar Gateway

Orbit Fab has been selected by NASA to support the Lunar Gateway the agency’s planned space station in lunar orbit designed to support long-duration exploration missions.

As part of the effort, Orbit Fab is working with NASA to develop a coolant fluid coupling for Gateway’s thermal control system, drawing on the company’s experience in on-orbit refueling and spacecraft fluid transfer technologies.

Gateway is being designed as a modular platform whose components can be maintained, serviced, and replaced over time. That architecture creates a need for reliable fluid transfer systems that can operate in space, where fluid behavior differs significantly from terrestrial environments and presents added engineering challenges.

Orbit Fab’s work will support the transfer of coolant needed to help maintain stable operating temperatures and overall system performance aboard the station.

The project extends Orbit Fab’s capabilities beyond refueling and into a broader set of in-space infrastructure technologies aimed at enabling long-duration missions, on-orbit servicing, and a more durable space economy.

About Orbit Fab

Orbit Fab is building the infrastructure to make satellite refueling routine. Following earlier on-orbit demonstrations and with four fuel delivery systems scheduled to launch over the next year, the company is preparing to supply fuel to a growing base of client spacecraft equipped with the RAFTI® refueling interface. RAFTI® can replace traditional satellite fueling valves, allowing spacecraft to be designed for refueling without adding cost, mass, volume, or complexity. Released under an open license, it has emerged as the industry’s de facto satellite refueling interface standard. Orbit Fab is headquartered in Colorado and also operates facilities in the United Kingdom. Learn more at orbitfab.com.
